It is really important to allow yourself to relax during hypnotherapy sessions. So, if you are having trouble relaxing during the hypnotherapy sessions, here are some helpful tips to get you to relax into a calmer state of mind, ready for hypnosis.
When you are under hypnosis - it is a little like being asleep. Yet, you're not - not quite, anyway. Instead, you are in a state of deep relaxation. You may be aware of things around you, but you are also completely switched off from them. At least you should be (if not, take a look at the list of tips below to help you.)
Then, in this state of deep relaxation, you will be more focused on the words of the hypnotherapist. In some cases, you can be so relaxed you fall asleep during the session. That's okay, though, the hypnosis will still work on your subconscious, which is still very active.
Now, if you are still having difficulty relaxing during the sessions — you can do the following things to help you reach a calmer state, ready for hypnosis:
-
Listen to the session in the evening or at night
-
Use headphones/earphones or any speaker device to enhance the sound and block
out surround sound
-
Set the scene (dimly lit room, tranquil setting eg. bedroom)
-
Comfort comes first (comfortable setting, clothing and surface, eg. bed or couch)
-
Use the toilet first so you do not feel distracted should nature call.
-
No coffee, exercise or energy-boosting drinks, foods or medication 3 hours before
listening
-
No responsibilities or major background sound (e.g. kids running around or building work going on)
-
Prepare yourself mentally before meditating a little. If you need help with this, we have
some great guided meditations
